The KOD is requested to call the speaker the Monday before the meeting. This will give the KOD a chance to see if the speaker has any special needs and is a good time to verify information about the speaker so they can make a proper introduction. KOD Don Mikulka introduced his neighbor and friend Retired Marine Sgt. Joe Ryan and the speaker Sgt. JP Monahan.

Sgt. Monahan is now a local recruiter for the USMC. He has recently retuned from Iraq where he saw combat with the Combined Action Platoon. They are the military equivalent of calling 911 because they are called to go into the extremely dangerous situations. Sgt Monahan recounted numerous interesting stories of his war experience. He made the point that the good deeds the military is doing in Iraq don’t get into the news papers. Things such as building 6 schools and distributing food to the Iraqi people.

Sgt. Monahan suggested that if we wanted to do something for the troops, we could “Adopt A Marine”. If you are interested, go to www.850koa.com then click on “Gunny Bob Show” then click on “Marines ready for adoption”. If you are not on line, contact Ken Bradley at 303.756.8084. He has printed out a list of the Marines in Delta Company. This is a project worthy of our support. These Marines are in combat in Iraq and would love to get mail and an encouraging word from home.
