ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Steve Heifetz reported the web-site is up and running with current information—such as the weekly newsletter. We will be sending around a sign-up sheet for those members who want to receive The Builder only on the web. This will be a cost saving measure. A hard copy will be mailed to all those without web access or who want a copy on hand.
Bill Eade reminded us of the prayer breakfast interclub with Aurora the day before Thanksgiving. The speaker will be from the Air Force Academy. Sign-up sheet will be circulated next Thursday so we can let Aurora know how many to expect.
Fred Greene reminded us of the Division 15 Governor’s banquet tonight. We have 10 signed up to attend.
John Forney announced the next meeting of the Auto Rally committee for Tuesday, Nov 15. The meeting will be at Debra Glade’s, but will start at the Polak residence (5252 E Nassau Circle) for carpooling at 7 pm.
Debra Glade reported Operation Christmas Child progressing well, with help from members of the club. Dick Zerzan, as is his custom, contributed generously
Joe Lavigne announced a meeting for next Thursday for all members or “would be” members of the Community Exploration Committee.
John Forney brought a news clipping about Exhausted Roosters, resulting in later Happy $.
Prez Keith reported the SDK CD with club pictures, would be available soon.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
John Forney was happy his football team walloped Nebraska last week.
Bill Eade had $5 to admit he was an Exhausted Rooster (ex member Jr Chamber of Commerce)
Fred Greene was happy our club has members like Dick Zerzan—and for the continued activity with our K-Kids at Knight Academy.
Anna Marie Pixler was doubly happy—her little dog was doing well and the bills were ready, which means she solved some of the problems with the computer program for club finances. Next on her agenda is the budget.
Debra Glade was happy that Joe Lavigne was passing on 25 boxes to be filled for Operation Christmas Child.
Olin Smith also contributed for the Exhausted Roosters, even though his picture did not appear in the paper. Since this group meets for lunch once a year (in November), we probably won’t hear about it again for quite a while.
Jim Schlottman also had a dog story—but this one was for his mother.
Courtney Crispe was happy that her daughter (2) had graduated to a big bed and not fallen out.
Joe Lavigne was happy he could pass on some of Deb’s boxes for filling, and for the wonderful hospitality of the Heifetz family.
Tito Chaverri was happy for his guests—our speaker and the one to introduce her.
Dallas Mauk—for the Japanese takeover.
Steve Heifetz was happy for his Cub Scouts and their project on Iraq.
PRIZE WINNER: Doug HelmKOD: Tito Chaverri
With help from his wife Marjorie, Tito was ready to introduce our speaker. But before the meeting the two of them gave a little
up-date on the proposed jaunt to Costa Rica. They are currently working with airlines for transportation. The trip is probably
moving to the first week in February, 2006. This will give the country a little more time to “dry out” after recent flooding,
and a bit more time for the weather to improve.
Marjorie introduced Ellen Kern by giving some of her impressive background. She is a lawyer (and married to a lawyer) who has
worked in and helped countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. She is fluent in four languages. Her resume is mind boggling, and
she is passionate about the Colorado International School, which was founded in 2005, as a part of the larger International
Schools.
The Colorado International School is located in Observatory Park and currently serves 40 kids from pre-school to 8th grade. They
offer education in English, Spanish, French and Mandarin but even though they teach immersed in the language they do it from an
American perspective and curriculum. At the present time it costs about $7,000 per year for each student.
They operate on the policy of giving back to the community, so first graders were out helping a neighbor lady with Alzheimer’s rake
leaves.
The 7th grade class is currently studying World War II, so Ellen was recruiting veterans from SDK to come and tell about that
war. Art Meyers, a POW in the European theater, has volunteered.
