OPENING:Dick Horrocks gave the invocation.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Joe Lavigne read the thank you notes from the students our club sponsored for the HOBY leadership conference. The kids were indeed grateful and we could tell from their letters that there enthusiasm was real.
Dick Horrocks reminded us of tomorrow's picnic.
INDUCTION CEREMONY:
New members, Debra Glade and Ken Bradley were inducted in a ceremony conducted by Fred Greene. The Club is honored to welcome
these fine additions and looks forward to enjoying their fellowship and benefiting from their fresh input.
Keith McDonald passed around a container of "Delicious Delights" for members to sample. He proposed that we sell these
as part of our fund raising for the coming year.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Bill Eade gave us an update on the progress of Lonny Bryant. Lonny is now in Mariner Rehab Center at Holly and Orchard and is improving.
Dallas Mauk read us a report on real estate values in Manhattan. Astronomical!
Ann-Marie Pixler for the HOBY KIDS. Sheâ?Ts proud of them.
Lorene Moss for our two new members.
Fred Greene wondered why, if love is blind, that ladyâ?Ts underwear is so popular(This has been cleared by censor!).
---Fred had another happy dollar for a recent visit with his grand children and great grand children.
---and a third happy dollar for the District Meeting in Cheyenne.
Bernie Polak for our two new members and for the photos from last weekâ?Ts meeting, which he passed around.
John Farenholt looks forward to joining our Club, for which we are all very happy!
Brian Keough is looking forward to the picnic.
KOD: Reda Walsh introduced our speaker, Mr. Vince Marino.
Vince Marino had a full career in the air force from 1949 to 1971. He flew 52 missions in B29's in the Korean War, and was in
Vietnam as well. For 14 of his 21 years in the Air Force he was overseas. He then entered Federal Security, where he was
involved in supervising security for such high profile events as the Atlanta Olympics, the American Indian trial in
South Dakota, a farmers' demonstration where he was chased by a tractor; the Moscow Olympics of 1980(subsequently boycotted); the
McVey-Nichols trial; the L.A. Summer Olympics and the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
Mr. Marino told us a wealth of anecdotes about his career and answered a like number of questions. Members came away with a new
appreciation for the difficulties involved in security and the massive increase in resources our country has devoted to it
since 9/11.
Thank you, Vince, for an outstanding program.
Literary moment for the week (not to be taken literally!)
