SOUTH DENVER
P O BOX 101405
DENVER CO 80250 1405

OPENING: Joe Lavigne lead the pledge and Ed Schenck gave the invocation.
GUESTS: Brian Keough introduced his brother-in-law, John Stouffer
Daniel Leeds accompanied our speaker, Gordon Brown from SMARTS. Daniel expressed interest in our Club's activities.
Ed Schenck introduced Kelsey Horine, who will be heading up the Circle K at DU.
Welcome John, Kelsey and Daniel. We hope to see you back.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Bernie Polak welcomed Circle K from School of Mines and DU, and expressed the hope that they would support next year's auto rally.
  • Dallas Mauk will call one member from each foursome for the upcoming golf tournament with their tee times. He reminded the non-golfers that they are welcome for the dinner that will follow at about 5:30 as the players finish their rounds. Dinner is at the Park Hill Golf Clubhouse July 21, 2005.
  • Dick Horrocks reminded us of the Club picnic August 19 at Cook Park, starting at 4:00 PM. Dick passed around a sheet for members to volunteer to bring dessert or salad. The club will provide the main course and soft drinks.
  • Joe Lavigne gave a brief summary of his attendance at the Kiwanis International meeting in Hawaii. He expects we will be honored with a visit from members of the International Committee for Growth and Development.
  • Rajeev informed us that a Circle K team will be going to Mexico in December to build three houses for the poor.

  • HAPPY DOLLARS:
  • Brian Keough for his brother-in-law, John Stouffer.
  • John for the warm reception that he received as our guest.
  • Lorene Moss for our guests.
  • Ed Schenck for Kelsey Horine's presence here today and for her willingness to step forward and assume leadership in Circle K at DU.
  • Keith McDonald for Joe's attendance at the International meeting.
  • Bernie Polak updated us on the latest euphemisms to pollute our language. We can only hope that such obfuscating verbiage will be outsourced to the appropriate receptacle.

  • KOD: Reda Walsh introduced today's speaker, Gordon Brown of the South Metro Region Arts Council.

    SPEAKER:
Gordon Brown presented an exciting prospect of a world class center for the arts in the south metro area. Plans are advancing for the location, financing, and cooperation among regional governments in Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. The Center would provide facilities for the four major branches of the arts. Surveys taken of residents of the region show widespread support for the concept. Mr. Brown outlined for us some of the economic benefits it would have both in stimulating business activity and enhancing property values in the South Metro area.

Mr. Brown thanked us for the opportunity of speaking to us, since he finds this type of face to face contact most effective in overcoming the immunity we all develop to the massive amounts of promotional material that confront us every day.

Our members had many questions, and expressed considerable interest in this exciting project.

Thank you, Gordon, for keeping us informed.

    PRIZE WINNER: Tito Chaverri

    CLEVER NEWS REPORTER
A car was involved in an accident in a street. As expected a large crowd gathered. A newspaper reporter, anxious to get his story could not get near the car. Being a clever sort, he started shouting loudly, "Let me through! Let me through! I am the son of the victim." The crowd made way for him. Lying in front of the car was a donkey.

    HAVE A GOOD WEEK!
