Program:
Our guests were from Interfaith Community Services. Dr. Fred Warnaars is a board member and Ms. Maria Pearson is Community Relations Coordinator.
Maria gave an excellent presentation of the multitude of services this organization provides for our community. Their by-word is
to ‘give a hand up, not a hand out’. In the south metro area, which is their field of operation, they now reach 900 families a month. Sixty to eighty of these are new to their system. They take special pride in not only aiding the homeless, but in preventing homelessness through multiple forms of assistance to families who find themselves suddenly in need. They have a large food and clothing ministry; luncheon assistance for school kids; back to school supplies for children so that they have a new set of clothes, pencils, paper, backpacks, and other necessary supplies to start a new year. They have a computer center where they can teach clients to use computers and where they can make job applications. They have extensive programs for seniors, especially those who are shut in. They take them shopping and to appointments, and provide them with the fellowship that they so often lack.
Maria and Fred invited our members to visit them at their at 3370 South Irving Street. They also reminded us of their fund raiser, Puttin’ On The Green, a putt-putt golf tournament to be held Saturday, May 14 at Colorado Journey, Belleview and Windemere. Registration is at 8:30 AM. Shotgun start at 9:00 AM.
Interfaith Community Services is a remarkable organization and we thank them for coming to talk to us and we congratulate them on their outstanding work.
